What insight do we get about Lennie over the course of Chapter 5?
Using "appropriate textual evidence" (words from the mark scheme), explain your perceptive interpretations - just like we did with Crooks' room.
You must include Lennie's episode with the puppy as well as his later interaction with Curley's wife.
Take care with spelling, punctuation and grammar as nearly everybody lost a significant amount of marks on this in the exam.
Aim for at least 500 words, as the assessment will be up to 1200 words so we need to start practising racking up larger pieces of writing.

Reminder of Homework / OMAM Online
http://www.shipk12.org/web/filemgmt_data/files/Steinbeck_-_Of_Mice_and_Men.pdf
Click on the link above for an online version of the novel Of Mice and Men - might be useful if you need a last minute quote or a reminder of what happens in the book.
Reminder of Homework for Friday:
Write up notes on each of the characters we have looked at so far as Blogposts.
BONUS QUESTIONS:
For each character: From what we have read so far and what you know of them:
1. Which modern day actor/celebrity would play this character in a 2012 movie version of the novel?
(Grab a pic of them off the internet)
2. Is there a song that would sum up this character? This might involve a search on your iTunes for the perfect song choice... For example, for Curley's wife, you might think Lady in Red by Chris De Burgh, or if you are not middleaged, perhaps Maneater by Nelly Furtado :-)

- "This show is about as funny as toothache!"
- "Unfortunately, this show is about as funny as Tron, which is to say, not at all."
- "This show is about as entertaining as watching mould grow"
- "This show is about as entertaining as lima bean casserole"
- "This show is about as interesting as changing cat litter"
- "The presenter on this show is about as interesting as a binbag."
- "He has all the personality of an airport departure lounge"
"She has all the personality of a plastic chair"
"As boring as a wet weekend in Wigan"
"The only people who might be entertained by this are those who have not encountered electricity before. And even then I'm not too sure."
REMEMBER: Do not steal lines - but nothing wrong with a bit creativity and inspiration. Use what is out there to guide what your review contains. If you like something here, think about how you can change it to make it your own.

Like or Loathe task to be completed NEXT WEEK
Don't shoot the messenger Year 10, but in our English Department meeting we have been told that all pupils must complete their Like or Loathe task by the end of NEXT WEEK. This means that we can then focus purely on the Head Injury task for the rest of the time before Half Term. So we will be looking at some tips and tricks to include as well as a plan and then... Next Wednesday - This is our opportunity to put as much notes as can fit onto an official AQA planning sheet: The only thing you can take into the controlled assessment. Remember: No full sentences, but you can use diagrams and symbols - handy! Thursday and Friday's lessons - The Controlled Assessment in examination conditions. All you will have is the AQA planning sheet with whatever you put on it. Click here for a LOVE planning sheet
Click here for a LOATHE planning sheet
Below is a PowerPoint with all the tips we have looked at so far ie. humour and the use of discursive markers
UPDATE: There may be some possibly for us to do this the week after - but this will then be eating up into time reserved for Task 2: The story based on a poem task, so be aware of this.

Homework details: Making your blog
Hi Year 10, here are the instructions for creating a Blog.
1. Create a blog at www.blogger.com - name it dhsmediaFIRSTNAME followed by the initial of your SECOND NAME so John Smith would have the blog address of dhsmediajohns - if you call it anything different, just make sure you tell me the address so I can find it.
2. Reply to this post with your address so I can keep tabs on your postings to see if you are on the right lines.
3. Make your first post - All I would like is a cheesy introduction saying hello, introducing yourself and the Blog: "My name is x and this is going to be my homework blog for GCSE English Language and English Literature."
4. Do the quiz mentioned in the previous post. Copy and paste your result in a new post.
Any problems, reply and I will answer directly.
Mr Howard

QUIZ: What is your learning style?
FIRST HOMEWORK: I would like you go onto the following link - What is your learning style? and complete the quiz on that page.
We all learn differently! Some clever psychology folk have said that we all have a learning preference that fits into one of four categories known as "VARK"
Visual - You learn best from pictures and colour
Auditory - You learn best from hearing or speaking
Read/Write - You learn best from reading and writing
Kinesthetic- You learn best from 'doing' and require a more active way of learning.
90% of your teaching fits into the Read/Write category but unfortunately only 10% of young people actually have this learning preference: What a waste of time!
Therefore, I would like you to complete the quiz at the link above and post on your Blog what type of learner you are with your score from the quiz and what that says about you.
Then I would like you to try and insert the picture from the selection below that fits your learning preference. Any questions, reply to this post
